UFC 246 Results: Conor McGregor Destroys Donald Cerrone

For the first time in 2020, the Octagon set up shop, as UFC 246 took place Saturday night from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor made an impact in his return to action, stopping Donald Cerrone early in the first round.

McGregor, who lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title in 2018, did not compete in 2019. “Notorious” showed no signs of rust, landing quickly and rapidly against “Cowboy.”

The win was his first since a 2016 second round finish of Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight title.

Former UFC champion Holly Holm got back in the win column for the first time since 2018, scoring a decision victory over Raquel Pennington.

Holm, who won the bantamweight title back in 2015 and competed for featherweight gold in 2017, controlled the action. She lost to Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight belt last July after being on the wrong end of a head-kick, much the same way she won it over Ronda Rousey.

Key Finishes For Oleinik, Kelleher

Just call him Mr. Decade, as Aleksei Oleinik earned a submission victory over Maurice Greene.

Oleinik has now scored wins in four different decades, becoming the first fighter in MMA history to accomplish such a feat. The 42-year-old began his career in 1997 and is now 58-13-1 overall including seven wins with the UFC.

Bantamweights Brian Kelleher and Ode Osbourne were scheduled as part of the UFC Fight Pass early prelims. But when Alexa Grasso badly missed weight, forcing her bout with Claudia Gadelha to be scrapped, they were elevated.

Kelleher took full-advantage, scoring himself a first round win via submission over Osbourne with a guillotine choke. The win snapped a two-match losing skid for Kelleher, as he moved to 20-10 overall.

Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis kicked off the main card against Carlos Diego Ferreira. But instead of “Showtime” being the fire-starter, it was Ferreira.

Early in the second, Ferreira locked up a neck crank and got the submission, improving to 16-2 overall. The former Legacy FC champion has won six in a row, including three of his last five via finish.

Modafferi Shines On ESPN

The ESPN prelims featured three decisions and a knockout, with Roxanne Modafferi, Sodiq Yusuff, Askar Askarov and Drew Dober victorious.

Modafferi capped the performance with a decision over Maycee Barber in the female flyweight division. The win was the third for the 37-year-old inside the Octagon.

Yusuff topped Andre Fili in the featherweight ranks, Askarov downed Tim Elliott at flyweight and Dober finished Nasrat Haqparast in the first round via strikes at lightweight.

The card kicked off on UFC Fight Pass with Aleksa Camur earning a decision over Justin Ledet in the light heavyweight division and Sabina Mazo scoring herself a split decision at flyweight vs. JJ Aldrich.
