UFC 246: Conor McGregor to Make a Whopping $80 Million?

Anyone who has followed Conor McGregor in recent years knows that the controversial star has scored some massive, massive paydays. But, the figure McGregor shared out in a recent interview, in terms of how much money he’ll make for fighting Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 is buzzing around the web.

$80 million for the “Cowboy” fight?

McGregor recently did a lengthy interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, and not surprisingly, the subject of money came up. After all, McGregor is one of the biggest names in MMA and all of combat sports.

Well, when asked about how much money he expects to make for his bout with Cerrone, McGregor said this (quote via MMA Mania):

“I’m confident it’s going to be a nice paycheck. Probably (most ever) in my mixed martial arts (MMA) career,” the “Notorious” one said. “Yeah. I’d say about, it could be, I’m estimating a good $80 million.”

”They think I am toast Ariel, but I’m still the bread.”

Ah…ya. Now, if you’re wondering how much money he made for his bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov, which was one of the biggest fights in MMA history, McGregor said around $50 million. So, chances are this estimate is going to prompt a lot of discussions about this statement or McGregor’s new deal.

The reaction?

Could McGregor be including all of his various sponsorships in this figure?  Even if he is, the figure still seems off, but who knows?

While it’s believed McGregor made around $100 million for his 2017 bout with undefeated boxing star, Floyd Mayweather Jr., the compensation model for boxing is very different than MMA. Previously, no one was thinking that McGregor was making boxing type money for his MMA bouts. So, it would be shocking if McGregor was making close to $80 million based on pay-per-view points and a check from the UFC. Case in point, for the Khabib fight, it was disclosed he made $3 million (not including PPV dividends).

If it is, look for a lot of the game’s other big stars to negotiate their deals….

UFC 246 will be hosted by the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
