Meghan Markle just got some very bad news. Newly released court documents reveal that her estranged father, Thomas Markle, may soon be called to testify against her in Meghan’s lawsuit against the Mail on Sunday newspaper.
Meghan Markle’s Lawsuit Against Mail On Sunday
Fox News reported that Meghan is suing the Mail on Sunday and its parent company DMG Media, formerly Associated Newspapers, for publishing a private letter she had written to her father. DMG Media also owns Mail on Sunday‘s sister paper, the UK-based Daily Mail.
In the lawsuit, the Duchess of Sussex accused the paper of copyright infringement, misuse of private information, and violating the UK’s data protection law by publishing her personal letter.
The newspaper made it clear in court documents that it will rely on evidence from Thomas Markle in its defense. Arguing that he “had a weighty right to tell his version of what had happened between himself and his daughter, including the contents of the letter.”

Lawyers for the newspaper are arguing that members of the British royal family “generate and rely on publicity about themselves and their lives in order to maintain the privileged positions they hold and to promote themselves.”
The newspaper has also argued that it only published the letter as a response to a “one-sided” article in People Magazine in February 2019. The People article featured an interview with five unnamed “close friends” of the Duchess which referenced the letter, meaning its existence was in the public domain.
Thomas Provides Text Messages
Page Six reported that Thomas has provided the publication’s attorneys with a series of text messages between him, his daughter, and her husband Prince Harry.
In one exchange, Thomas can be seen telling Harry that he would not be able to fly to the United Kingdom for their 2018 wedding because he had been rushed to the hospital for emergency heart surgery.
“I’ve done nothing to hurt you Meghan or anyone else,” Thomas texted. “I’m sorry my heart attack is … any inconvenience for you.”
Outspoken British media personality Piers Morgan has since penned an op-ed headlined “Thomas Markle’s anguished text messages expose Meghan and Harry as a heartless pair who care more for complete strangers than their own family”. Ouch!

These lawsuit related developments come just days after Meghan and her husband Prince Harry announced they were stepping down as senior members of the royal family. And that they will henceforth be spending much of their time in North America.
“We have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” the couple said in a shocking statement last week. “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”
The couple reportedly wants to eventually end up back in Meghan’s LA stomping grounds – although they refuse to do so while Donald Trump is still president. And so their short term plan is to wait it out in Canada.
“I’ll just simply say I’m disappointed,” Thomas said in response to this news.
Thomas, Not Meghan, Could Be The Victim In This Situation
When Meghan married Harry, many were quick to take her side in her public battle with her Markle relatives. As she seemed like the victim in the situation at the time.
Over the past week, however, Meghan has shown her true colors. With the way she has treated the Queen and the rest of the royal family. So many are seeing her family drama in a new light.
Perhaps Thomas Markle was the real victim in this situation all along. And he really was tossed aside by Meghan, who sees him as a liability. Someone who stands in her way of securing the A-list lifestyle she craves.
It will certainly be interesting to see what comes out when Thomas Markle takes the stand against his daughter Meghan in her Mail On Sunday lawsuit.
