A recent photo of Jose Aldo has he prepares to make his bantamweight debut this Saturday at UFC 245 prompted widespread questions and concern on line. While Urijah Faber hasn’t declared the legend isn’t going to make 135 this Friday, he is worried about Aldo’s ability to make the weight.

Faber comments on Aldo’s much discussed cut

When Aldo announced his intention to drop to bantamweight, more than a few people, including Dana White, expressed reservations. After all, for years there was talk about the former featherweight champ moving up to lightweight, not down to bantamweight.

Then, after a photo of Aldo was shared out recently, as he gets set to fight Marlon Moraes this Saturday, concerns fired around social media. Darren Till, for example, relayed he thinks Aldo is going to “badly struggle” to make weight or not even make it.

So what’s Faber’s take? While talking to MMA Junkie recently the Sacramento star said this:

“Aldo, in my opinion, is one of the best fighters to ever grace the sport,” Faber said. “Seeing him make this weight cut, I know that he’s mentally tough enough to do it. I don’t know if it’s going to be the best for his body. I remember the first time I did (135), I was over-cutting because I was nervous about how it was going to go, so I was getting too small too early. I think he might be doing the same thing. I don’t think it’s going to be good for him. Hopefully he’s able to perform to the Aldo that we all know, but only time will tell on that one.”

It is interesting to hear Faber’s take on this, as he has extensive experience fighting at both 145 and 135.

Not everyone is concerned….

Now, it should be noted that Eduardo Dantas, Aldo’s longtime teammate, has said the legend has been performing great in camp and that all is well. Conor McGregor also recently weighed in on the situation and opined that he thinks Aldo looks on track.

Of course, we don’t have wait to long before we get a better sense of how Aldo’s drop is going. Weigh-ins are Friday and UFC 245 is Saturday. If Aldo does go out and defeats Moraes this weekend, there will be much less talk about his weight cut.
