Urijah Faber showcased a ton of heart and toughness tonight at UFC 245, but the Hall of Famer was outgunned by surging bantamweight contender, Petr Yan.
Yan came out pressuring and while Faber countered with a nice knee on one occasion, the rising bantamweight offered more volume. Faber attempted to return fire, but late in the round, Yan landed a hard shot that appeared to daze the star. Yan came in with a jumping knee before the frame ended but it didn’t land.
Yan continued to change up his stance in round two. Faber planted a nice left hook early into the round but Yan countered with a combo not long after. Faber took an elbow mid round and then threatened with a takedown. Moments later, Yan sent Faber to the deck with a big left, but the Hall-of-Fame got back to his feet. A bloodied Faber proceeded to score with a hard punch, but Yan put him down again with an elbow seconds later. Faber incurred a massive cut and hematoma by his left eye and the fight was briefly stopped for the doctor to look at it. Faber got back to his feet after the action resumed, but Yan took him down with a nice sweep moments later.
Yan came out aggressively in round three and grazed Faber with a headkick. Not long after, Yan tagged Faber with another kick to the head that dropped the vet and that was that. Another impressive win for the rising Russian star.
