Amanda Nunes

Germaine de Randamie had a few, notable moments tonight against Amanda Nunes. But, the bantamweight champ’s wrestling and top game ultimately ruled the day.

Round one

Nunes came out firing kicks and grazed de Randamie with a bg right. Nunes came forward and after throwing another big right, she took de Randamie down. The latter scrambled to her feet and Nunes countered with a guillotine choke, but de Randamie worked her way out. Nunes took de Randamie down again and started firing down shots from above. De Randamie attempted some upkicks but Nunes continued to pound away from above. Nunes transitioned into a tight looking arm-triangle-choke but de Randamie survived. Wow.

Round two

De Randamie came out more aggressively in round two and threatened with some hard shots. De Randamie planted a hard right that backed Nunes up. 90 seconds in, however, Nunes changed levels and scored with a beautifully timed takedown. De Randamie tied Nunes up and the fight was stood up. De Randamie grazed the champ with a head kick and then tagged Nunes with a knee to the jaw moments later. With just over a minute left, however, Nunes took de Randamie down again.

Round three

De Randamie planted a right not long into the frame and Nunes countered with another takedown. Nunes controlled the position from the top but a few boos started to make the rounds. Nunes moved into halfguard and landed some shots from above. Nunes started firing elbows from above as well but de Randamie countered with a hard upkick that stunned the champ. Nunes moved into sidemount and started tossing in elbows. De Randamie almost scrambled to her feet but Nunes took it back down.

Round four

De Randamie checked a couple of leg kicks to begin the round but Nunes responded with another takedown. Nunes fired down more shots from above but de Randamie swept the champ with a triangle-choke attempt. The fighters scrambled and Nunes took the challenger down again. The action slowed, but Nunes landed a few punches from above before the round ended.

Round five

Seconds in, Nunes took de Randamie down off a leg kick attempt from the challenger. Nunes controlled the action from the top and she threw shots from above, while working from within de Randamie’s guard. Late in the round, Nunes moved into sidemount, before the final horn went. Nunes will defend the 135 title via a decision win.
