David Branch’s first bout in his post-UFC run didn’t go well today in Russia, as the middleweight was submitted by former Bellator champ, Alexander Shlemenko.
Shlemenko taps the BJJ black belt out in round one
Branch took Shlemenko to the floor early on into their RCC 7 bout, but, the highlight reel striker defended several choke attempts and returned back to his feet. As you can see by watching the clip below, as round one neared its end, Shlemenko submitted Branch with a nasty, nasty looking choke/crank.
Good lord that was nasty. What a sub for Shlemenko over the Gracie black belt. #RCC7 pic.twitter.com/DCbCDeIa86

The latest win for Shlemenko
Today’s victory was the 59th of Shlemenko’s career, and it moved the Russian’s overall record to 59-12. Shlemenko is riding a three-fight winning streak.
Branch’s meanwhile, fell to 22-7 and it was the American’s third straight loss. In March, Branch was quickly submitted by Jack Hermansson at UFC Philadelphia.
