Jorge Masvidal

After Colby Covington was taken out by Kamaru Usman at UFC 245, Jorge Masvidal didn’t waste much time before he took a verbal shot at his former friend and now rival. But, in the process of doing that, “Gamebred” also ended up praising former foe, Ben Askren.

Masvidal accuses Covington of ripping off coach again

If you’ve followed the drama between Covington and Masvidal the last few months, you know the latter’s accused Covington of not paying on of their coaches at American Top Team. Masvidal has claimed that’s why their friendship started to fracture a while back.

Well, after Covington was finished by Usman in round five
of their bout on Saturday, Masvidal tweeted out this:

They say never kick a man when he is down but you not a man. Should’ve paid my coach, it’s cheaper than getting your jaw wired shut #thecrucifixation

If you haven’t heard, it’s been reported that Covington also incurred a broken jaw during the UFC 245 headliner, thus, the comment about having his jaw wired shut.

Masdvidal credits Askren

Now, if you follow Masvidal, you also know that earlier this year he feuded with Askren, during the lead-up to their UFC 239 bout in July. Masvidal put away Askren with a flying knee in just five seconds, and “Funky” never made any excuses for the defeat.

On Sunday, after Covington blamed his defeat on referee Marc Goddard.

Shout out to @Benaskren
who never tucked tail after his loss. Made no excuses. Took it on the chin and never censored the haters like a coward #theresurrection

That prompted this response from Askren:

Sometimes life kicks your butt when you least expect it. Make no excuses and move on.

How about that? Masvidal and Askren having an exchange that doesn’t involve insulting one another?

Now it remains to be seen what’s next for Masvidal. “Gamebred” could call for a bout with the champ, Usman. But, Masvidal has also talked about taking big money fights, like bouts with Nick Diaz or Conor McGregor.
