Eric Bischoff On AEW – NXT Ratings, David Arquette Wrestling Again

Does Eric Bischoff Believe AEW Needs To Start Worrying About Ratings?

As someone who was there first-hand and front-and-center to witness the explosion in ratings during the “Monday Night Wars,” Eric Bischoff is a great person to look to in regards to the current state of pro wrestling and ratings.

Earlier this month, All Elite Wrestling suffered a ratings loss to NXT, dropping each key demographic. Back when WCW started to make its push to the front of the pack, Bischoff was in charge of the promotion.

However, despite the setback, Bischoff told 83 Weeks recently that there is no reason to panic – yet.

“I wouldn’t panic if I was AEW,” said Bischoff. “No, one week, even though it was a pretty big gap this time, I wouldn’t sweat that. I’d pay attention to it.”

Bischoff, previously employed by the WWE earlier this year before being released, further explained.

“If NXT or AEW’s numbers continue the trajectory that they’re on, this will be a war of attrition,” he said. “This won’t be a war that is building things bigger like the Monday Night Wars did, this is just a war between AEW and the WWE C show that’s going to be determined by who can outlast the other until they start building an audience.

“Because based on what I’ve seen, neither of them are building an audience. They’re to one degree or another, they’re both losing an audience.”

The December 18 episodes of AEW and NXT represented the final live programs of 2019 for the two shows, and both did their best to stack the cards. According to Showbuzz Daily, NXT generated 795,000 viewers, with Dynamite pulling in 683,000.

It was NXT claiming each of the key pro wrestling adult and younger demographics, the first time the show has done that against Dynamite.

AEW Plans For Early 2020

When AEW returns in 2020, Cody Rhodes will try to help them win back the ratings war by going against Darby Allin. The Lucha Brothers will be in action, taking on members of The Elite in a six-man battle.

Also, reigning champion Chris Jericho will make Jon Moxley an offer he cannot refuse.

David Arquette Competing In New Year’s Wrestling Event

Sources within WWE reveal that Vince McMahon hopes David Arquette, the highest-paid actor in Hollywood, will bring much-needed starpower to WWE.

Remember when David Arquette became the WCW heavyweight champion? Yeah, most wrestling fans from that time are still trying to forget it, too.

However, Arquette is continuing to show his love and passion for pro wrestling. The Hollywood actor told TMZ Sports that he will compete in another match.

Arquette will take part in the Bar Wrestling promotion’s New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day events from Baldwin Park in California. First, he’ll team with Colt Cabana, Joey Ryan and RJ City in an eight-man match.

After that, Arquette and city will take on Cabana and Ryan.
