Dominick Reyes is indeed, going to be the next man to challenge Jon Jones, and the undefeated contender is planning to fight “Bones” in back-to-back bouts. Except, according to Reyes, the second time they fight, he’ll be holding the UFC’s light-heavyweight crown.

Reyes plans for a rematch

Following Reyes’ impressive, first round stoppage of Chris Weidman in October, the 12-0 fighter has been tapped to fight Jones on February 8th at UFC 247. After Reyes took out Weidman, he immediately called for a title shot. But, initially, Jones said he wasn’t pumped to fight Reyes and that he was looking at a super fight.

Eventually, however, Jones and his coaches determined Reyes was a tougher challenge to his reign than Corey Anderson, and the fight was recently booked. Well, just before Jones – Reyes was officially announced, the latter spoke with MMA Fighting. When asked about the possibility of fighting Jones twice, Reyes said this:

“Absolutely. I look forward to the rematch,” Reyes said. “I’m already planning the rematch in Cowboy Stadium. That’s already in the works.

“I already know what’s going to happen. I’m going to beat him, it’s not going to be enough. Perfect, let’s do it in Cowboy Stadium except this time it’s my pay-per-view.”

Now, if Reyes does pull off the upset, will the UFC grant Jones and immediate rematch? It’s likely. After all, we’re talking about one of the greatest fighters ever, whose only loss came via disqualification, and that was back in 2009. Of course, if Jones emerged from the fight injured and couldn’t fight for a while, then maybe Reyes would face someone like Anderson first.

Would the promotion finally hold a card in Cowboy Stadium (AT&T Stadium) for the rematch? That’s probably not nearly as likely as an immediate rematch. But, you never know.

Reyes hopes Jones is looking past him

Since the fight was announced, the early betting lines have Reyes as a fair sized, underdog, which isn’t a surprise really. Right now, Reyes is carrying odds in the +300 to +350 range.

While Reyes is tall, dangerous, and undefeated to date, in Jones we’re talking about one of the most athletic, skilled and well-rounded fighters the game has ever seen.

While discussing whether Jones could be looking past Reyes, the 29-year-old said this:

“I’m definitely not the one you want to act cocky with,” Reyes said. “I mean I hope he doesn’t but if he does, sh*t, better for me.”

Fair enough. There’s no indication that the likes of Weidman or Jared Cannonier took Reyes lightly, but Reyes took both of them out in less than three minutes. So, Jones would certainly be wise to not underestimate “The Devastator”.

UFC 247 will take place in Houston, Texas.
