Tyson Fury

Recently Stipe Miocic made news by reporting he wants to fight Tyson Fury in either the boxing ring or the UFC’s Octagon, and now the decorated pugilist has responded.

Fury’s comments about taking a MMA fight

Why is Fury in MMA headlines so much these days? Well, recently the British star reported that he hopes to take a MMA fight in the not too distant future. The comments fired around the combat sports world, since Fury is one of the biggest names in boxing. It also surprised many, or prompted doubts about Fury’s claim, since he has some big fights available to him in the boxing ring. Most notably, a rematch with Deontay Wilder.

In addition, after Fury made the statements, video footage of him training with the UFC’s Darren Till, was shared out.

Fury responds to Miocic

Well, Fury’s comments got back to Miocic, and in a recent interview, the UFC champ made it clear he’s very interested in fighting “The Gypsy King”. So much so, Miocic said he’ll throw hands with Fury in either a boxing match or a MMA fight.

Since then, Fury released a statement to MTK Global, in which the charismatic fighter responded to Miocic’s comments (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“Stipe says he wants to box me, that would be a good fight for sure,” Fury said. “After I get [Deontay] Wilder out of the way, I’ll fight Stipe in a boxing match if he wants it. It would be a big crossover fight like Mayweather and McGregor.”

“I’m open to that fight so he should come and see me,” Fury said. “It would be the same outcome for any of them, they’ll all get smashed.”

So, this statement shouldn’t come as a surprise. While Fury may in fact be interested in taking a MMA bout, it wouldn’t, or shouldn’t be against one of the greatest heavyweights the sport has ever seen. Now, that said, some would argue that boxing match between Miocic and Fury would also be heavily, heavily stacked in the latter’s favor and just as one-sided. Yes, even if Miocic has showcased dangerous hands in the Octagon.

That aside, it just seems like the chances of this fight happening, with boxing or MMA rules, seems slim to none. While the Mayweather – McGregor fight was massive, most people walked away from it understanding it was never going to be a very competitive fight from the get go. So, it’s hard to imagine there being that much interest in Fury vs. Miocic. Especially if say, Fury beats Wilder and a bout with the winner of Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Anthony Joshua 2 is in the works.
