As this is being written, there’s been no official announcement yet, but it’s being reported that UFC flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko will take on Katlyn Chookagian next.
According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Shevchenko and Chookagian are set to fight at the UFC’s February 8th card (according to multiple sources). Houston, Texas is the expected location for the upcoming event. MMA Junkie is also reporting that the fight is a go according to someone with knowledge of the situation.
Shevchenko (18-3) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Liz Carmouche in August, which marked the second time she’s defended the 125 title, since she won it in December (by defeating Joanna Jędrzejczyk via decision).
Chookagian (13-2), meanwhile, recorded a decision victory over Jennifer Maia earlier this month. The victory moved her UFC record to 6-2.
So, while this isn’t as a big of a fight, as say Shevchenko’s fight with Joanna, it will be interesting to see how Chookagian does against the renowned champ.
Here is the expected line-up so far for the upcoming card in Houston (via MMA Junkie).
Valentina Shevchenko vs. Katlyn Chookagian
