Jorge Masvidal Proclaims “I’m The Ticket at 170 Pounds”, Not Kamaru Usman or Colby Covington

Many believe that Jorge Masvidal could be tapped to fight for the UFC’s welterweight crown next. But, according to the ‘BMF’ champ, he’s holding all the cards and the division’s big names are fighting to face him.

Masvidal’s next fight

After Masvidal took out Ben Askren in July, “Gamebred” said he was going to wait for a title shot, unless a bout with Conor McGregor got tabled. Then Nate Diaz proceeded to call him out after his win at UFC 241, and Masvidal agreed to battle the star at UFC 244. As you likely know, Masvidal beat Diaz via doctor stoppage at the event, and also secure the ‘BMF’ title.

Well, due to Masvidal’s impressive year, he’s in a position to demand a bout with the winner of the December 14th bout between champion Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington. While talking to Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole recently, Masvidal was asked about the possibility of facing the winner of the UFC 245 headliner, and he said this (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“They’re fighting for the spot to fight me,” Masvidal said. “I’m the ticket at 170 pounds. I’m going to go and get the biggest, best and toughest fights.

“So it’s looking like we might fight Nick Diaz next, it’s looking like it might be Conor McGregor, obviously those fights come first because of the paycheck and everything it brings while these guys are settling the dust between the hugging championships.”

Now, critics might argue that Masvidal is looking to avoid a fight that he’s more likely to lose, on account of the wrestling skills both Usman and Covington have. But, it is worth noting that Masvidal was calling for a title shot not long ago. When you consider he is 35 now, can you blame him for seeking out fights with either Nick Diaz or McGregor, which will deliver big paydays? That said, one would think a fight with his former friend Covington would also be huge.

Masvidal – Diaz

Speaking of Nick Diaz, recently there’s been extensive talk about Masvidal fighting the Stockton star. While talking about a potential match-up with Nate’s older brother, “Gamebred” said this:

“If he’s ever been motivated for a fight, I think it’s going to be this one,” Masvidal said. “I think whatever he’s been doing in the past, he’ll cut it and he’ll get into his ways of fighting. Knowing the Diaz brothers and how much they love and respect each other, I know that guy’s going to come with everything he has.

“That hypes me up to want to fight. Like let’s f*cking do this cause you’re not taking nothing what I’ve got. You’re knocking at my front door and you ain’t getting in here. I’m going to stop you right where you stand. That’s how I feel.”

So, it will be interesting to see what comes next for Masvidal. Provided the UFC can come to terms with Nick, then you would think a bout with Masvidal will materialize.
