Jorge Masvidal

Nick Diaz has been in the headlines, following a rare interview he recently he did, in which he talked about Jorge Masvidal and alluded to fighting the ‘BMF’ champ. Well, Masvidal’s done an interview since then, and not surprisingly, he was asked to respond to Diaz’s comments.

Diaz’s recent interview

Following UFC 244, which saw Masvidal defeat Nate Diaz via TKO (due to doctor stoppage), the latter’s older brother Nick spoke with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. During the interview, Diaz reported he’s planning to return to the cage, and he also relayed he didn’t care for certain comments Masvidal had made about Nate. For example, Diaz objected to Masvidal’s warnings that he had hoped to “baptize” Nate.

Diaz also alluded to fighting Masvidal at AT&T Stadium in Dallas next year, and after the interview, the star’s manager confirmed to ESPN that they are indeed, hoping to secure that bout.

Masvidal responds to Nick

Well, since Diaz did his interview with Helwani, Masvidal appeared on The Dan LeBatard Show. While discussing Diaz’s interview, and the comments he made about Masvidal (they actually played some of Diaz’s comments for Masvidal), “Gamebred” said this (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“Is he asking to fight?” Masvidal said. “I was confused or are we going for a walk some place? He’s asking for a fight? He’s asking for a fight or to go for a walk? Does he know who he’s asking for a fight?”

“Cause I love to fight, especially when I get a little something on top of that.”

Now it will be interesting to see if this fight does indeed, get made. Obviously, a bout between the two would be big. But, you could say that about a lot of match-ups involving Masvidal these days. Case in point, the 35-year-old said this:

“We don’t know who’s next but everybody’s looking like cash symbols, cash money to us right now,” Masvidal explained. “The next person is going to be the one that puts the most zeros in the bank account, who that [is].

“A lot of people are saying my name now. They didn’t want to fight me before, like a year or two [ago], they didn’t want to fight me. Everybody wants to call me out now. So it’s funny to me because these same guys didn’t want to fight me two or three years ago.”

The other obvious options for Masvidal are obviously the winner of Kamaru Usman – Colby Covington, a rematch with Nate Diaz or Conor McGregor. The last two here seem less likely right now.
