Suzanne Somers Gets Backlash For Posting Nude ‘Birthday Suit’ Instagram Photo At 73

Actress Suzanne Somers of “Three’s Company” fame has found herself targeted by internet backlash this week after she posted a nude photo of herself in her “birthday suit” in celebration of her 73rd birthday.

Fox News reported that it all started on Wednesday, when Somers shared her nude photo on Instagram along with the caption, “Here I am at 73 in my Birthday Suit!!!”

Fans Rally Behind Somers

The photo immediately went viral and divided internet users about whether or not it was appropriate. Some were quick to praise Somers for showing off her body in this way at an advanced age.

“You go girl! Way to rock your 70’s. So inspirational!!” one Instagram user commented, with another adding, “Love this!!! Appreciate you being an example of the importance of loving our bodies and still feeling sexy at any age!”

“Bravo,” a third user commented. “And to those who criticize, her pose is no different than being in a bikini. We should all hope to look this great & be this healthy at the same age .. Suzanne is an inspiration!”

Somers Faces Backlash From Trolls

Others, however, were not fans of Somers’ nude photo.

“Why…you are too old to be acting like this,” one person commented on Instagram. Another user wrote, “Too old to be modeling in your birthday suit. If I was to do that I would get the same remarks.”

It looks like a PSA for bad plastic surgery.

“Why would she do that? Not a pretty sight,” a Facebook user commented about the nude photo. “She was so beautiful. Shots and surgeries change their faces too much. Surprised she didn’t get a boob lift also. Oh, well, to each his own.”

Somers’ Life-Changing Battle With Cancer

Somers, however, was likely undeterred by the internet backlash, as she is known to consider herself lucky to still be alive.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, Somers was not sure if she would survive, and she decided to adopt a holistic lifestyle instead of undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

While many would consider this to be a foolhardy strategy, Somers is still here nineteen years later, and she has learned to appreciate every day.

“I just thought, I’m going to win this my way, I’m going to change my life,” Somers recently explained.

“… And I’m going to eliminate as many chemicals from my life, my lifestyle and diet, as I can possibly consume. So that’s what I’ve done. There’s not one chemical in our house and you can feel it when you walk in.”

My Take

In the end, it’s nobody else’s business if Somers decides that she wants to show off her nude body in an Instagram photo.

Besides, even though she is naked in the image, the photo is not very revealing by today’s standards compared to so many other things we see on the internet these days.

People need to lighten up and allow Somers to enjoy her birthday. We should all be so lucky to look like her at 73!
