If you follow Cain Velasquez, you know that the UFC’s former heavyweight champ has been turning heads in the pro-wrestling world. Well, it looks like we won’t see Velasquez back in the Octagon anytime soon, possibly every.
Recently Velasquez performed on a couple of wrestling cards for Lucha Libre AAA. Well, on Friday, Velasquez showed up at WWE’s “Smackdown” debut on FOX and got ‘into it’ with fellow former UFC champ, Brock Lesnar.
MMA Junkie is reporting that the outlet’s been notified that Velasquez plans to leave the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) testing pool, which all UFC fighters must be apart of. The reason being that Velasquez plans to make pro-wrestling his focus.
In a recent report from ESPN, it was reported that Velasquez is in talks with the WWE, but that no deal has been signed. The accomplished, collegiate wrestler has also reportedly been in talks with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
In the aforementioned ESPN report, Velasquez was quoted saying the following about his pro-wrestling career:
“This is definitely my focus,” Velasquez said. “My family is into it, they love it. They’re super excited. I haven’t seen them excited over something like this in a while. It’s cool.”
It’s worth noting that Velasquez hasn’t officially retired from MMA. But, if he signs with WWE and has success with the company, you have to wonder if his fighting days are over. The 37-year-old Velasquez (14-3) is coming off a quick, stoppage loss to Francis Ngannou in February.
