Dana White

Colby Covington has been blasting the UFC and Dana White once again, and recently he turned heads, by warning the latter to not try putting the belt around him at UFC 245. Well, it looks like White isn’t about to just shrug off the recent comments and threats by “Chaos”.

Covington’s recent issues with the UFC and White

Covington was at odds with the UFC as 2018 came to a close and as 2019 began, after the promotion went with Kamaru Usman over him for a title fight with Tyron Woodley. Eventually, tensions subsided, but as negotiations got underway for a fight with Usman, Covington accused the UFC of coming with a low ball offer. He also accused the promotion of bullying.

Although Covington is now booked to fight Usman at UFC 245 on December 14th, the controversial fighter recently made it clear all is not well between him and White. While speaking to “Submission Radio“, Covington said this (quote via MMA Fighting):

“I can tell you who’s not wrapping it around my waist, and that will not be Dana White,” Covington said. “If he tries to wrap it around my waist, I’m gonna take the belt from him and slap him in the face with it.”

White’s response

White was asked to respond to Covington’s recent comments following UFC Boston, and here’s what he had to say:

“Good luck with that,” White responded. “He’s a big mouthed f—king idiot.”

So, although some have questioned whether Covington sincerely means everything he says, on account of his “Chaos” act”, clearly White isn’t about to turn a blind eye to his comments.

It will be interesting to see how this situation evolves moving forward. If Covington does beat Usman, then you can’t help but wonder if another protracted, contract battle could ensue. If he loses, well, could Covington’s UFC run come to an end? If he continues to blast White? Similar to how things ended between the UFC and Cris “Cyborg”?
