Justin Gaethje continues to roll, as the former WSOF champ took out Donald Cerrone in the opening round of the UFC Vancouver headliner.
Round one
Gaethje planted a couple of calf kicks right out of the gate. Moments later, Gaethje just missed with a big left. Gaethje scored with another leg kick but may have taken an eye poke. Cerrone planted a right but Gaethje returned fire. Both lightweights flurried in but Gaethje scored with another leg kick. Gaethje threatened with some big hooks but Cerrone continued to offer back.
Moments later, Gaethje dropped Cerrone with a booming right hook. Cerrone was bent over on the ground, and after Gaethje planted several more punches, the fight was stopped. Cerrone protested the stoppage, but he wasn’t defending himself as Gaethje followed up. Another first-round, stoppage win for Gaethje. Wow.
After the fight, Gaethje proclaimed that the “Irishman”, in reference to Conor McGregor, is “retired”, and that he wants to fight the winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov – Tony Ferguson.
