Stipe Miocic

Recently Daniel Cormier let it be known that he wants to fight Stipe Miocic one more time, and ideally, before 2019 ends. But, now it’s being reported the heavyweight champ did not emerge unscathed from his win over Cormier last month.

Miocic – Cormier III

Miocic faced Cormier for a second time last month at UFC 241, and proceeded to reclaim the heavyweight crown via a fourth round, stoppage win. Afterward, Cormier said he was going to take some time to decide his fighting future. But, recently the former champ-champ confirmed he wants to battle Miocic in a rubber match and then hang up the gloves. Cormier also said he was hoping to face Miocic before 2019 ended.

The champ is sidelined with an eye injury

Well, as it turns out, Miocic sustained an injury to his eye in his second fight with Cormier. Recently his agent Jim Walter told ESPN the following:

“Mr. Miocic sustained a major retina injury from multiple eye pokes during his bout at UFC 241,” said Walter. “Our client’s health and safety is our top priority. We are excited for him to return to action when he is healthy to compete in his seventh consecutive world title fight.”

Walter also reportedly said that Miocic won’t be examined again for three more weeks, and that will determine if he needs another procedure on his eye. Even if he doesn’t require one, the champion will not be cleared for sparring etc at that juncture. So, when you consider October is almost here, the chance of Miocic fighting again in 2019 seem slim to none.
