Paul McCartney Addresses Alleged Feud With John Lennon, Who Visits His Dreams

Sir Paul McCartney just gave an emotional new interview in which he opened up about his fellow Beatle John Lennon, who he says visits him in dreams. McCartney also shot down rumors of a feud between him and Lennon, who was tragically murdered in 1980.

McCartney Dreams Of Lennon

“I dream about him. When you’ve had a relationship like that for so long, such a deep relationship, I love when people revisit you in your dreams,” McCartney told late night television host Stephen Colbert. “I often have band dreams and they’re crazy. I’m often with John … I have a lot of dreams about John. They’re always good.”

Daily Mail reported that McCartney also revealed in the interview that he forgot how well he had gotten along with Lennon, shooting down the longstanding rumors that the pair had feuded before The Beatles broke up in 1970. He became visibly moved when Colbert showed him a candid photo that was snapped of him and Lennon in 1968. The image happened to be taken by McCartney’s late wife Linda, a photographer who died in 1998.

“This is me and John, in Abbey Road,” McCartney said. “It wasn’t too long before the break-up of the Beatles; this would be the end of our relationship and, at the end, when the break-up happened, it was kind of sour – very difficult to deal with.”

The Alleged Feud

McCartney added that if anything, it was the rumors of a feud that created a rift between the pair.

“The rumor started going around that John and I didn’t get on well, we were arch-rivals, that it was very heavy and ugly,” McCartney said. “The strange thing is you sometimes get to believe something, if it’s said enough times. So I used to think: ‘Yeah, it’s a pity, you know, we didn’t get on that well.'”

That’s why McCartney said that seeing the photo of them laughing together was a “blessing” for him, adding: “It’s like, this is how we were: this is why we related, or else we couldn’t have collaborated for all that time. Just seeing the joy between us here really helped me, because it reminds me that the idea we weren’t friends is rubbish. We were lifelong friends, our relationship was super-special.”

McCartney Talks About George Harrison’s Death

This comes months after McCartney said that he often sees The Beatles in his dreams.

“John and George are still a big part of my life, always will be,” McCartney said. Former bandmate George Harrison died in 2001. “It would have been great to get the Beatles back together again. People always say what if? But we can’t, so, sadly, that’s not going to happen.”

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
