Bellator 228: Gegard Mousasi Accuses Rafael Lovato Jr. of Using “Monkey Steroids”, Following Latest Win

Gegard Mousasi may not have left fans buzzing with his win at Bellator 228, but the MMA world is likely going to pay plenty of attention to what the accomplished fighters said afterward.

Mousasi avenges his 2014 loss to Lyoto Machida

Mousasi faced Machida in the main event of Saturday’s card, and he narrowly got by the former UFC champ via a split decision win. Both fighters largely looked to counter strike during the fight, and as a result, the three-round match-up didn’t feature many memorable exchanges. But, it was a big win for Mousasi, as not only did he avenge his 2014 loss to Machida, he returned to the win column. Mousasi was fighting for the first time since June, when he lost the 185 title to Rafael Lovato Jr. via decision.

Mousasi accuses the champ of steroid use

Well, if you’ve followed Mousasi over the years, then you know he’s been a vocal critic of PED use. During the post-fight presser, Mousasi was asked about who he wants to fight next, and he made it clear he wants to rematch Lovato Jr. In addition, the accomplished fighter proceeded to accuse the vaunted grappler of using steroids (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“That guy looked like a horse,” Mousasi said about Lovato Jr.. “You guys are reporters but you don’t even report on that. You can see a difference with a picture of him and then he looked like he’s muscular when he’s 35. You guys can watch, you should report that. Take a picture next to each other, it’s day and night difference. That’s not even a little bit of steroids. That’s like monkey steroids. You guys go check it out. I can post pictures for you guys if you want.

“He looked twice as big at the weigh-in. His nipples were hard like a woman. Watch it, I’m not kidding. I’m not trying to be funny. He could have given milk to babies.”

“Everybody knows he was on steroids but people call me bad loser. Maybe I am a little bit but I should have beat him anyway,” Mousasi said. “My head wasn’t in it.

“I hurt him in the third round, I hurt him in the fourth round. I f—ked up myself so I’m blaming myself but the juice helped him also.”

So, ya. It will be interesting to see what Lovato Jr. or his team have to say in response to all this, if anything. It also remains to be seen if Bellator will tap Mousasi for a rematch. But, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if they did. Before Mousasi lost to Lovato Jr., he had won eight straight fights.
