Becky Lynch has been using the moniker “The Man” for a considerable amount of time now. However, this did not stop Ric Flair for attempting to trademark the name for himself. According to Wrestling Inc, Flair filed for the trademark on August 26. Evidently, this has caused some serious tensions between the WWE, Ric Flair, and some of its biggest superstars.

Ric Flair “It’s My Trademark, And They Have To Use It”

Ric Flair

Flair claims that he contacted the WWE right after Summerslam, when Becky Lynch started to use “The Man” in August last year. He promptly contacted the WWE about the moniker, but was turned away.

“So I got my worded statement, I sent [WWE’s lawyer] a text and the lawyer, who just has no respect for me whatsoever which is something I’m not going to deal with much longer, he said, ‘You’re wrong. It’s not even close.’ I said, ‘It’s not even close?’ So, boom, I sent him another text, he didn’t respond. So I had my lawyer call him and he blew off my lawyer. This is all in 2018 or in January of ’19.” – Ric Flair

According to Flair, the problem with the trademark has caused some serious tensions between himself and his daughter Charlotte Flair. He states that Charlotte has been upset because the entire situation.

Putting Fuel On The Fire

As to be expected, Flair has been extremely outspoken about the whole thing and even taunted the WWE by responding to a tweet from Becky Lynch. Becky tweeted “I am the Man.”, to which Ric Flair responded:

“To Be The Man, You Gotta Beat THE MAN! #AlreadyTrademarked”

Stars Unfollow Ric Flair Shortly After He Filed

Becky Lynch

Some superstars seem less than impressed with Flair’s recent behavior. According to British newspaper The Sun, Triple H and Seth Rollins have both unfollowed Ric Flair.

As Seth Rollins is Becky Lynch’s fiance, it is no a surprise that he has unfollowed Flair in the heat of this argument. He is standing by his woman and nobody can really blame him for that.

Triple H unfollowing Ric Flair is quite shocking though, especially when you consider that they have been friends for a long time. In fact, they were in the Evolution wrestling faction together. Flair was also one of Triple H’s idols as a child.

The friendship between HHH and Flair has withstood a lot of storms. Last year, Flair took shots at Triple H’s friend Shawn Michaels, yet their friendship held strong. Now, however, it would seem like Triple H has taken a serious stance against Flair.

Triple H and Becky Lynch are not the only ones who have taken Becky’s side in this argument. If backstage rumors are to be believed, the entire WWE locker room is shocked by the trademark filing and support Becky all the way.

Fans seem to take Becky’s side in the argument, too. They believe Flair has no claim to “The Man” trademark and that there is a weak connection to the moniker at best. In fact, most fans believe this argument is the most ridiculous one yet. I cannot say I disagree.
