Khabib Nurmagomedov

In advance of UFC 242, the promotion has been sharing out some of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s biggest wins, and recently the company posted his memorable, championship victory.

The lead-up to UFC 223

Originally, Khabib was supposed to fight perennial contender and former interim champ Tony Ferguson at UFC 223. But, just days before the April 7th, 2018 card, Ferguson incurred a freak knee injury and had to withdraw. Featherweight king Max Holloway was brought into face Nurmagomedov at the event, but the New York Commission ultimately declared Holloway couldn’t medically compete. Al Iaquinta was tapped for the fight instead, and you can watch how that bout unfolded below (there was also the now infamous, dolly throwing incident with Conor McGregor prior to the event).
