Disney World and Disney Land opened their long-awaited Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park this summer and the TSA is warning travelers some souvenirs will be confiscated.
Things like the swordlike lightsabers are still allowed. But anyone looking to bring home a collectible soda bottle shaped like the “thermal detonator” that only exist in the world of the Skywalkers will be sorely disappointed.
The TSA issued a statement letting people know the fake and fictional explosive isn’t allowed in carry-on or checked baggage.
“I know these look dodgy, but can they be packed in suitcase? Thanks,” a Twitter user asked the official account of the TSA.
“Thanks for asking! Replica and inert explosives aren’t allowed in either carry-on or checked bags,” they responded.
What if they put hooks on the top and say they’re Christmas tree bulbs? Others noticed the similarities as well.

Others pointed out just how ridiculous the ban on the soda bottle is.
“This is absurd. Furthermore they do not actually look like the explosive in the movie. Also. Thermal detonators are not real,” one user replied.
The TSA account doubled down on their absurdity and explained why the souvenir replicas are banned.
“Even with a normal bottle cap, this item is still considered a replica and is not allowed in carry-on or checked bags,” they tweeted. “If our officers discover a replica item during screening and believe it’s real, the item will be treated as such until advised otherwise by law enforcement.”
The TSA does address Star Wars replicas in its “What can I bring” guide online. However, in this case, it simply serves to highlight the ludicrous ban of thermal detonators.
“Sadly the technology doesn’t currently exist to create a real lightsaber. However, you can pack a toy lightsaber in your carry-on or checked bag. May the force be with you,” it reads.
Several pointed out the glaring lapse in the TSA’s logic.
“You are aware explosives come in regular soda bottle shapes too right?” one asked rhetorically.
Regularly shaped soda bottles that are empty are allowed through airport security. However, TSA has made clear that even with the bottles emptied and the caps unscrewed, they’re still not allowed.
So, if you really want to bring home a souvenir Sprite bottle shaped like a thermal detonator, plan on road-tripping to Florida or California.
