As the MMA world continues to recover from a video, which allegedly shows Conor McGregor striking an elderly man, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s made it clear he wants the star to be punished.

The video that fired around the internet

On Thursday, the combat sports world quickly made mainstream news, following the release of a video, which shows a man who looks very much like McGregor, punching an elderly man in a Dublin pub. The incident reportedly occurred after McGregor allegedly offered people shots of his whiskey, but the man turned it down, and words were exchanged.

When UFC President Dana White was asked to comment on the video, he reported he was previously aware of an incident in April involving McGregor, but that he didn’t know what exactly had happened.

Nurmagomedov’s reaction

Well, Nurmagomedov recently spoke with TMZ, and not surprisingly, he was asked to comment on the situation. Here’s some of what the UFC’s lightweight champ had to say (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“I can imagine if I punch this guy, how many media are going to post it and talk about this bad, like about me bad,” Nurmagomedov said. “It’s like a really really bad thing, you know? Even if old guy like this guy in video, even if this guy punch your face 10 times, you can’t punch this guy’s face. You can’t. This is like impossible, you know? We have to respect old people.”

“…I told you guys, this guy has no class, no respect, this is very bad for sport,” Nurmagomedov said. “Some things he’s doing (are) good for sport, but right now he’s without his mind. He lose his mind. (The) government has to smash him.

“Ireland government, where are you guys? Send him location. Send him location, and that’s it.”

Now, it is true we don’t know what was said before the alleged incident went down. But, even the biggest McGregor booster should acknowledge this is terrible for the sport. Think about what would happen if one of the biggest names in basketball, baseball, football, whatever, sucker punched a senior citizen?

As it stands right now, Irish authorities are looking into the situation, but no arrests have been made. You have to wonder, however, if the release of the video will impact whether the UFC tries to book McGregor for a fight in the short term future.

Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, is set to fight Dustin Poirier on September 7th at UFC 242.
