A woman’s social media post shaming a McDonald’s employee for sleeping inside the restaurant went viral this past week, but not for the reason that she was expecting.

Fox News reported that the photo, which was captured in a McDonald’s located in Fayette County in Georgia, was originally intended to attack the restaurant for not taking action against the employee. After it was posted to Facebook, however, it was revealed that the employee was homeless and was just resting between shifts.

The woman reportedly posted the photo to a private Facebook group along with the caption, “Just another reason for me to leave Fayetteville. I was in the McDonald’s in the middle of town and I saw this guy sleeping in the booth, I got and tell an employee that someone is asleep in their booth and her response was ‘oh yeah, we know hee hee, it’s ok’ and I said, ‘not really but whatever.'”

When 21 year-old Simon Childs learned that a photo of him had been posted online, he was initially hurt by it. The young father explained that he had been having a difficult time ever since his mother passed away.

“It kind of hurt to see my picture up there, you know,” he explained. “I thought it was something negative and nobody would care about it.”

Community Rallies Behind Childs

Though the photo was intended to hurt him, it actually ended up helping him out in a big way. Members of the community felt terrible when they heard Childs’ story, and they went above and beyond to help him out. People donated hotel rooms to him, and one person even loaned him a car. They also bought diapers, clothing, and other supplies for Childs’ young child.

“They changed my life in a couple of days,” Childs said.

It’s so heartwarming to see a community come together and rally behind someone in need. This just goes to show that even when it may seem like the world is full of evil, there are still good people out there doing kind things for one another!
