Paul Felder is contractually obligated to make 156 pounds for his September 7th scrap with Edson Barboza, but the lightweight contender’s going to go one pound further.

Felder will battle Barboza at UFC 242, which will be headlined by a fight between 155 champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim champ, Dustin Poirier. Recently Felder spoke with MMA Junkie, and “The Irish Dragon” reported he plans to be eligible for a shot at the lightweight crown.

“A co-main event with Khabib and Poirier headlining? The answer is yes,” Felder said. “I’ll be making 155 pounds for weigh-ins. Of course.”

Sounds like a plan right? Especially since Barboza is coming off a KO loss to Justin Gaethje. So, if the UFC did get in a jam, because either Khabib or Dustin had to drop out on short notice, Felder could very well get the call. The latter is coming off a decision win over James Vick.

UFC 242 will take place at The Arena t Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
