Since joining the royal family one year ago, Meghan Markle has been hit with a deluge of criticism from all sides. Now, a royal expert is speaking out to say that the frequent criticisms of Meghan could soon cause her to reach a “breaking point.”

“As far as her American fans go, there has been a sense there’s not been enough done to protect her – at some point, you have to wonder what is going to be the breaking point,” said royal expert Victoria Arbiter, according to Yahoo News. “Yes, she keeps on trucking at the moment but it can’t be anything but incredibly difficult. We need to let Meghan blossom and let her do the job she’s in the Royal Family to do and perhaps hold back on some of the criticism.”

Arbiter added that as a former Hollywood star, Meghan is having trouble adjusting to the royal rule of not addressing negative reports head-on. During her time as an actress, Meghan could always “clap back” at her haters, but she is no longer allowed to do that.

“It’s very difficult when you come from previously celebrity background where a publicist can stand up for you or come out and say, ‘no, that report is categorically untrue,’” Arbiter said.

Meghan Says ‘They Don’t Make It Easy’

This comes after Meghan made her most candid comment yet about her situation while talking to music producer Pharrell Williams on the red carpet at the Lion King premiere.

“So happy for your union,” Williams says. “Love is amazing. It’s wonderful. Don’t ever take that for granted, but what it means in today’s climate, I just wanted to tell you, it’s so significant for so many of us. Seriously. It’s significant. We cheer you guys on.”

“Thank you,” Meghan replied. “They don’t make it easy.”

While the “they” she was referring to was not specified, it has been speculated that she was talking about the British press.

Though the press has probably been unfair to Meghan at times, she certainly has not made things any easier for herself by frequently breaking royal rules and immediately embarking on a multi-million dollar taxpayer-funded renovation of her home right after she married Prince Harry. If Meghan wants to be criticized less, perhaps she should focus a little more on following the royal traditions that have been in place for generations. These rules are there for a reason, as they have allowed the royal family to last this long.
