New reports have indicated that actress Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli are absolutely convinced that they will be acquitted in their upcoming trial for their role in the infamous college admissions scam.
Fox News reported that a source close to the couple are positive they’ll be acquitted in the trial, which is expected to occur early next year.
“They believe they’ll be exonerated,” the insider said.
The source went on to say that Giannulli refuses to even discuss the possibility of taking a plea bargain and that both he and Loughlin are “actively engaged” in their legal defense. The couple has been hit with numerous charges for allegedly paying $500,000 in bribe money to have their two daughters admitted to the University of Southern California as members of the crew team, even though neither girl had ever rowed.
Earlier this year, Giannulli and Loughlin rejected the plea deal that was taken by other parents involved in the case, such as “Desperate Housewives” actress Felicity Huffman. That deal would have only given them a few months in prison, but since they didn’t take it, Giannulli and Loughlin now each face 40 years behind bars.

Loughlin to Plead Ignorance
Sources are also saying that Giannulli and Loughlin are planning to plead ignorance and blame everything on Rick Singer, the mastermind behind the scam. The couple claims that Singer never told them that the $500,000 was being used specifically to bribe the USC crew team coach.
Another insider said that while Giannulli and Loughlin have not always been in agreement when it comes to dealing with these charges, they are now facing them “as a team.”
“Lori in particular has become extremely well-versed in the case,” a source said. “She’s an active participant in her own defense, feels like she’s got a valid defense and that when all the evidence comes out, she won’t be found guilty.”
