Chris Weidman and Dominick Reyes have already fired warnings shots in each other’s direction, following the news that the two are going to fight in October.
Recently ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported that a bout between the two was in the works. Since then, Brett Okamoto’s been told by a source verbal agreements are in place for the October 18th fight. The light-heavyweight scrap will reportedly headline the Boston card.
Well, Reyes tweeted out the comment below, and that prompted a response from the former middleweight champ himself.
Weidman has said that he wants a top contender in his light-heavyweight debut, and the UFC has clearly obliged. This is a big opportunity for both men. If Weidman wins, he’ll move into the title shot mix at 205 right away. If Reyes wins, however, his case for a title shot will be considerably stronger.
Reyes (11-0) is coming off a split decision win over Volkan Oezdemir (which Weidman referred to), and the former 185 champ (14-4) was taken out by “Jacare” Souza in his last outing.
