Sasha Banks WWE Status + New AEW Backstage Hire

-Over the past few months, a lot has been said about Sasha Banks and her status with WWE. The former Women’s Champion and one half of the first-ever Women’s Tag Team Champions walked away from the company following WrestleMania, and has not been seen since.

Banks reportedly wanted to quit over how the tag belts were handled, but the company has not (for obvious reasons) granted her release.

There has been speculation that she could want to go to All Elite Wrestling, and she made curious comments on social media during that company’s PPV debut a few weeks ago.

However, despite all of the speculation that we all enjoy to do so much of,  Sasha Banks does seem to very much still be employed by WWE, and still doing work for them. Pro Wrestling Insider reports that Banks is in Orlando today to film material to be used in the upcoming WWE 2k20 video game, which is slated for a fall release.

One would think that, if the relationship was fractured beyond repair, or in otherwise bad shape, neither WWE nor Banks would be engaging in this kind of creative activity. That Banks is doing this work is a glimmer of hope that perhaps we will see the Legit Boss back on RAW or SmackDown in the not too distant future.

–All Elite Wrestling has been making a lot of moves over the first half of 2019, and most seem to be working out well.

From their initial signings of talent like Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho, to the more recent moves-bringing on Jim Ross and hiring Dean Malenko-the moves have been smart. This does not even delve into the Jon Moxley acquisition, but enough has been said about that.

Now, PWInsider reveals that AEW has made yet another shrewd backstage talent move.  As the company begins to ramp up its live events, they’ve brought Rafael Morfi in to handle live events for them.

Morfi has an impressive background in live event management, both in wrestling and beyond. He’s handled that aspect for WWE, as well as Impact Wrestling and other, smaller promotions. He has also held positions with the New York Mets and the New York Cosmos as well.

Not a flashy move, but likely a smart one.
