As we head into the second half of 2019, it’s still not clear when Santiago Ponzinibbio will fight this year, following his latest stint in hospital.

The welterweight contender had to undergo emergency surgery not long ago to deal with an infection in his knee. Ponzinibbio was released, but, now MMA Fighting’s reporting the Argentinean star was hospitalized again after having a reaction to the medication he was taking.

The report states Ponzinibbio spent 8 more days in the hospital due to the reaction, before being released yesterday. In the story, the surging fighter’s quoted saying:

“I’m focused on my recovery now,” Ponzinibbio said. “I want to fight soon, of course, but I have to get back to 100 percent first. I know I’ll come back better than ever and win the fights I have to win to win my title.”

The 32-year-old hasn’t competed since November, 2018, when he knocked out Neil Magny at UFC FN 140. Ponzinibbio has won seven in a row.

Here’s hoping he has a speedy recovery and we see him back in the cage soon.
