Kim Kardashian

In recent years, reality star and fashion influencer Kim Kardashian has found a new passion in life – that of helping those she believes are convicted or sentenced unjustly get out of prison. But Kardashian’s latest felon to champion is a man on death row and the mother of one of his victims is speaking out about what Kardashian is doing.

“It makes me feel sick to my stomach and I pity her,” May Ann Hughes said in an interview. “For what she’s doing to us, there’s nothing to justify what she’s doing to us, the immense pain she is causing us.”

In 1983, Hughes’ 11-year-old son, Christopher, was sleeping over at a neighbor’s house in Chino Hills, California when Kevin Cooper entered the home and viciously attacked the boy with a hatchet. Cooper also killed the neighbors Christopher was staying with, Doug and Peggy Ryen, as well as their daughter, Jessica. The only one to survive the attack was the Ryen’s son, who was 8-years-old at the time.

Kardashian successfully lobbied to have further DNA testing done in the quadruple murder case.

Hughes says she thinks the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star’s goodwill is being exploited and, in this case, Kim is being used due to her ignorance about the case.

“[Kim] obviously has not read all of the actual evidence — she has bought into half-truths perpetrated by the defense. If she actually sat down and read the transcripts of all the trials and appeals, she would be sick to her stomach to be in the same room with him.”

She also thinks Cooper’s attorneys are using Kim. They “are using her for her reality show status because they can’t use the truth to try to help Kevin Cooper. The truth just condemns him,” she said. “[Cooper is] 100 percent guilty and the evidence shows it. If you want the whole truth, read the 94-page document on the website of the San Bernardino County D.A.”

Hughes also brought up the fact that a woman who accused Kevin Cooper of raping her in Pennsylvania in 1982 testified against Cooper at trial.

Despite speaking out about her son’s murder and Cooper’s conviction, Hughes says she is not interested in speaking with Kim Kardashian about the case.

“[She] has not reached out to us. I would not even want to talk to her,” Hughes said. “My opinion of her is about as low as it goes because of what she’s putting my family through … dragging this through the press on a non-stop basis.”

It’s a fine line to walk between wanting to help those you think may be wrongly imprisoned while also not offending the family of the victim(s), and Kim Kardashian‘s stiletto heels aren’t cutting it. Hopefully, with more DNA evidence being tested, Kevin Cooper’s guilt or innocence will be resolved once and for all.
