Colby Covington

Colby Covington is going to fight Robbie Lawler next, instead of Kamaru Usman as originally expected, but “Chaos” has taken the opportunity to trash both the welterweight champ and Ben Askren.

After Usman took the UFC’s 170 title from Tyron Woodley earlier this year, it was announced that the former interim champ, Covington, would be next for his the new champ. But, Usman is sidelined right now due to injuries, and isn’t expected to compete again until after the fall. In the meantime, Covington has been booked to fight Lawler on August 3rd.

Well, recently Covington reported his upcoming fight with Lawler via the Instagram post below.

If you follow Covington, then the tone of these comments won’t come as a surprise. But, since “Chaos” hasn’t fought now since last June, when he beat Rafael dos Anjos, the fact the UFC came calling for a summer bout isn’t a shock.

Now it will be interesting to see whether Covington can get past Lawler, and whether he can score a convincing win. If Askren takes out Jorge Masvidal in dominant fashion on July 6th, he also could be in the running for a title shot.

Covington – Lawler will headline the August 3rd card in Newark New Jersey.
