Several fighters have told the UFC they’re down to fight Robbie Lawler on June 29th, but now former Bellator champ, Alexander Shlemenko, is calling for the bout.

Lawler was supposed to rematch Tyron Woodley at the UFC’s upcoming, Minneapolis event, but the latter has withdrawn due to a hand injury. As this is being written, no replacement has been announced for Woodley.

Well, recently Shlemenko let it be known that he’s keen to face the former welterweight champ.

Hey @Ruthless_RL I heard you need an opponent for June 29th. I’m ready. @ufc @danawhite @joerogan

The 35-year-old Shlemenko is coming off a stoppage win over Viscardi Andrade, while fighting under the Russian Cagefighting Championship banner in May. The victory was the 58th, yes, the 58th, of Shlemenko’s career.

Could this open the door to Shlemenko finally joining the UFC? Even if a bout with Lawler doesn’t materialize?
