Oprah Winfrey is coming to the defense of Meghan Markle these days as she prepares to launch a mental wellness network slated to be part of the new Apple streaming service with the duchess’s husband Prince Harry.

“I think she’s being portrayed unfairly, and I feel that if people really knew her they would know that she is not only everything we perceive of her in being graceful and dynamic in holding that position, but she just has a wonderful, warm, giving, loving heart,” Oprah said of Markle on “CBS This Morning” on Wednesday. “I think it’s very unfair.”

Well, the truth is that Meghan can have a good heart to friends — and billionaire media titans — and still do all the things that have been reported about the pregnant American Duchess.

Oprah’s longtime best friend, Gayle King, who co-hosts on the CBS show — and also attended Markle’s glitzy, star-studded baby shower at Serena William’s multi-million dollar NYC condo — naturally agreed with Oprah and lamented Markle’s bad press since she began dating Prince Harry.

“She’s very kind, she doesn’t seem to buy into it though,” King said.

“I think that’s remarkable that despite everything that’s going on, she does not read anything,” Oprah agreed.

It’s probably pretty easy to avoid the tabloids when you don’t go out and get the paper yourself.

Oprah attended Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry last year.

Oprah isn’t just friendly with Meghan, but also with her mother, yoga instructor Doria Ragland.

“She’s great at yoga, so I said, ‘Bring your yoga mat and your sneaks in case we just want to do yoga on the lawn,’” she admitted last year. “So one of the bags was a yoga mat and the other was lunch.”

It’s unsurprising that someone that friendly with Markle and her mom would dismiss reports of how she behaves to royal staff and even within the family. It’s Oprah and Gayle’s prerogative to speak well of their friend in public, but it doesn’t make what’s been leaked more or less true.
