Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays the King-Slayer Jamie Lannister, revealed just what was running through Lannister’s mind when he comes to face to face with Bran Stark.
In the final moments of the Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere, Coster-Waldau’s Jamie Lannister arrives in Winterfell hiding his identity underneath a heavy cloak and hood. Once he is inside the fortress proper, Lannister dismounts from his horse and is confronted by Bran Stark, who glowers at him.
For Game of Thrones veterans, you will remember that it was Jamie Lannister who pushed Bran Stark from the top of tower after the young Stark caught him and his sister Cersei Lannister in a very comprising position.
Coster-Waldau chatted with EW where he provided the lowdown on Lannister’s thoughts when confronted by Bran.
“First of all, I don’t think wheelchairs are a normal thing in Westeros. I think it’s like: ‘What the hell?’ and then, ‘Oh my god, that’s the kid.’ I think he knows Bran didn’t die, but he doesn’t expect to meet him.”
He then goes into detail about how Lannister’s thoughts are already changing upon being confronted by Bran.
“His mission changes once again. It goes from: ‘I know my brother Tyrion is there and I’m going to fight the good fight’ to ‘I’m in deep sh– now.’ Because this is the Lord of Winterfell that I tried to kill and I’m sure he wants revenge. That’s what Jaime expects.”
While the preview for the second episode promises a showdown between Jamie Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen, Coster-Waldau indicates Lannister was anticipating meeting up with Brienne of Tarth.
“For Jaime, he would assume she would be there. I don’t think that was the reason he went. They’ve both been very good at compartmentalizing whatever feelings they have for each other.”
How do you think Jamie Lannister will fare in the second episode of Game of Thrones? Will he be able to survive the wrath of Daenerys Targaryen? What do you think Bran has planned for Lannister?
