New text messages have been released proving that State’s Attorney Kim Foxx kept meddling in the case of “Empire” star Jussie Smollett for weeks even after “recusing” herself.

Daily Mail reported that weeks after Foxx recused herself and handed the case over to prosecutor Joe Magats, she sent text messages to him in which she apparently compared the charges against Smollett to those against R. Kelly, another celebrity in trouble with the law.

Foxx apparently referred to Kelly when she wrote, “pedophile with 4 victims 10 counts.” She then clearly referred to Smollett when she added, “washed up celeb who lied to cops, 16.”

“On a case eligible for deferred prosecution I think it’s indicative of something we should be looking at generally,” she continued. “Just because we can charge something doesn’t mean we should.”

Foxx had recused herself from the case after it was revealed that she had exchanged text messages with a member of Smollett’s family in the days after the hate crime he allegedly staged against himself back in January. Though at the time she said outright that she had “recused” herself, she has since amended that to claim that she meant this in a “colloquial” sense rather than a “legal sense.” Foxx has also tried to claim that she only meant that she was going to “step away from the decision making” instead of removing herself from the case entirely.

“After the indictment became public, I reached out to Joe to discuss reviewing office policies to assure consistencies in our charging and our use of appropriate charging authority,” Foxx said in a statement. “I was elected to bring criminal justice reform and that includes intentionality, consistency, and discretion. I will continue to uphold these guiding principles.”

Members of the public, however, are not buying it, and calls are growing for Foxx to resign. We would have to agree that it’s time for her to step down from her position, as it’s clear that she cannot be trusted to uphold the law. No wonder Chicago police officers feel so betrayed by their prosecutor right now, because Foxx made it clear in those texts what little regard she has for crimes committed against them.

Foxx blatantly lied to the public when she said that she recused herself from the case, and she also seems to have blatantly interfered to ensure that the charges against Smollett were dropped. If Kim Foxx cares about the people of Chicago at all, she will step down and allow someone they can actually trust to take her position.
