The superstar shakeup has brought some surprises to Monday Night Raw, and it would seem like the company has a major surprise for SmackDown Live as well. In fact, Vince McMahon is building the hype for “a major acquisition” on SmackDown Live.
On WWE.com, the company hints at one of the biggest acquisitions for SmackDown Live. However, the plan comes from none other than Vince McMahon, so allow me to be skeptical about the nature of that acquisition and how it will impact the SmackDown Live brand.
“The mystery has been heightened by Mr. McMahon, who will be revealing the biggest acquisition in SmackDown LIVE history tonight. Who has the WWE Chairman secured for the blue brand?”
On one hand, this “biggest acquisition” could not necessarily be an indie star, it could be someone who is on the roster already but is considered as a major superstar. As such, names such as Roman Reigns and even Brock Lesnar have been rumored for the SmackDown Live Brand.
In addition to Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman is another rumored superstar for the blue brand. As we know, Vince McMahon has a preference for bigger wrestlers. Considering he must increase ratings for Fox Network, it would not be far fetched to see a guy like Strowman on the SmackDown Live brand.
Of course, major stars from other sports are another acquisition Vince could be talking about. NFL stars or even UFC stars could be considered for a prime position on the roster, no matter how inexperienced in wrestling they are. If this is the case, it could only spell doom for the blue brand.
Despite all the speculation, an influx of big talent is certainly needed now. After losing AJ Styles and other major stars, the WWE must fill the holes it has in talent.
We will not have to wait too long to find out what this “biggest acquisition” is, as the superstar shakeup for SmackDown Live takes place tonight. The hype is built and the stage is set. Let us now see if the company delivers.
