AEW Originally Wanted CM Punk As Their Star

– All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has all the tools to succeed and we will see soon enough if they can put everything together to make a successful business. They have Tony Khan, who has way more money than Vince McMahon, financially supporting the company and a slew of known names such as Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega to name a few.

During the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer mentioned how Khan initially wanted CM Punk to be part of the upstart promotion.

“[CM Punk] was Tony Khan’s first pick for AEW; before [Chris] Jericho, before the Young Bucks, before anyone,” said Meltzer. “If he wants to wrestle, he can wrestle and make really good money. If that’s what he wants.”

Since Punk abruptly left WWE in 2014, he has stated numerous times that he is done with the wrestling business. Then over the weekend, several outlets reported that Punk did a run-in during MKE Wrestling’s event titled The Last Knight; where he hit the GTS and exited the arena before taking off his mask. There are also some that speculate Punk has done this several times before.

All this will create more rumors that Punk could appear at AEW’s Double Or Nothing event on May 25 from Las Vegas.

– WWE’s referees are apparently a bit shook after what happened in the main event of WrestleMania 35. Referee Rod Zapata botched the ending, which saw Ronda Rousey get her shoulders up before the three count. As a result, Zapata was fined over the incident.

Sean Ross Sapp said on a Fightful Select audio said referees and the production crew are on edge because of the incident. They are fearful that a similar incident could result in more trouble. A general rule is for referees to treat the matches like shoots.
