If you saw another interim title fight coming in the UFC’s middleweight division, in the aftermath of UFC 234, well, it looks like you were right.

Yes, following emergency surgery to repair a hernia Robert Whittaker incurred, which pulled the middleweight champ from UFC 234, Dana White’s announced an interim title fight between Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum.

The UFC President has reportedly informed ESPN  the championship fight will take place on April 13th. The host city and venue for the card have yet to be announced. The main card will be a pay-per-view event.

So, when you consider that Whittaker is expected to be sidelined until this summer, this move shouldn’t come as a surprise.

The Australian fighter hasn’t competed since last June, when he defeated Yoel Romero for a second time, and Adesanya defeated Anderson Silva at UFC 234 in what was billed as a title shot eliminator. Further, Gastelum had been scheduled to challenge Whittaker at the recent event.

Even if you’re not down with another interim title being put up for grabs, Adesanya – Gastelum has the making of a pretty interesting fight right?
