Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, emphatically stated that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is not a great actor.
In a wide-ranging interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Bautista discusses his recent comments surrounding the firing of director James Gunn, his stance on firearms, his family life growing up, and of course his transition from a pro-wrestler to an actor.
After showing up on Raw to attack Ric Flair as his wrestling persona Batista, Bautista told the Tampa Bay Times, “Do not compare me to The Rock or John Cena. Everyone does it.” He indicates he “hates” the comparison before adding, “Those guys are wrestlers who became movie stars. I’m … something else. I was a wrestler. Now, I’m an actor.”
Referring to his status as an actor rather than a movie star, Bautista in a follow-up meeting with the Tampa Bay Times details he doesn’t need or want a huge paycheck:
“That’s just never going to be me, and that goes back to the feeling that I only need so much. I only need a certain level of security. I don’t need to make $20 million a film. I don’t even want $20 million a film. I wouldn’t know what to do with it.”
He would then discuss Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson describing him as “really special” before saying he’s not a great actor.
“Rock was, in a way, a movie star before he was even a movie star. There is something about him that’s really special. I’d never take that away from him.” He adds, “Would I consider him a great actor? F*** no.”

He then insinuates the roles The Rock and John Cena take are not good roles.
“I want good roles. I don’t care about Fast and Furious or Bumblebee. … That’s not the kind of stardom I want. … I want to be in Dune. I want to work with Denis Villeneuve. I want to work with Sam Mendes and Jodie Foster. I want to work with Academy Award winners. I’m proud to be a character actor. I want that respect and credibility and education.”
However, Bautista does play superhero Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy. Back in 2017, Bautista was expected to take on the role of the Eternal Warrior in an upcoming film based on the Valiant Entertainment character. The Eternal Warrior, Gilad Anni-Padda, is a character blessed with immortality. He has lived since ancient times experiencing and taking on key roles in a number of historical events. However, the character is also burdened with the responsibility of protecting the Geomancer from the Immortal Enemy. However, he fails over and over again as the Immortal Enemy easily dispatched the Eternal Warrior and the Geormancer, plunging Earth into dark ages over and over again.
Bautista even played Bond villain Hinx in [easyazon_link identifier=”B01MRBK8TQ” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Spectre[/easyazon_link]. His film credits also include Diaz in the action film [easyazon_link identifier=”B00GU9CAV2″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Riddick[/easyazon_link].
