Elias Back To Being A Face?

– Shortly after Roman Reigns announced his battle with leukemia had returned, WWE were forced to make several changes to storylines. One of the changes saw Elias go from a heel to face. That lasted less than 100 days as Elias unexpectedly turned heel again during the Royal Rumble Match with no explanation provided.

Elias was the first entrant and he did the whole schtick were he performs a song. Like when he was heel, Elias would rip on MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks and then attacked entrant number two Jeff Jarrett when they agreed to perform a duet together. The heel turn continued the next night on RAW when Elias once again attacked Jarrett and smashed a guitar over him. They fought on the most episode of RAW, where Elias won in what was Jarrett’s first WWE match in 19 years.

WWE continues to throw curve balls as Elias worked as a face again in a losing effort to Drew McIntyre over the weekend during a live event. In a short time, Elias has gotten over with the crowd as a face and heel. There was talk of putting the Intercontinental Championship on him a few months back, but WWE went in a different direction.

We will have to see on tomorrow’s RAW if Elias plays face or heel. Quite frequently, WWE will test superstars out at live events to see if a change in character is needed before booking anything on TV.

– For the second time in history, WrestleMania comes from New Jersey’s MetLife Arena following WrestleMania 29. It will be a huge week as there is the WWE Hall of Fame, NXT’s Takeover New York, WrestleMania 35 and then TV tapings for most of the brands.

With so much going on, Dave Meltzer explained during Wrestling Observer Radio how the tristate area will see WWE records easily broken.

“They’re going to set a record for the gate on this show in MetLife just because the ticket price is going to be higher,” said Meltzer. “And that show, Mania, is pretty much sold out and the secondary market is through the roof. This will be the biggest weekend in wrestling history as far as drawing money. Nothing will ever even be close.”

The only matchers confirmed for WrestleMania 35 as of now are Universal Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch vs. RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey; which is rumored to see Charlotte Flair added and likely feature women for the first time closing the grandest show of the year.
