Dear WWE Creative, Dean Ambrose’s Swan Song

Dear WWE Creative,

A lack luster appearance at the 2019 Royal Rumble; getting pinned cleanly by Seth Rollins; an interrupted promo on the January 28th edition of Monday Night RAW that seemed as if you cut his mic off; and just this week, once again getting pinned cleanly by a main roster rookie just called up from NXT.

The WWE Universe is fully aware that Dean Ambrose is on his way out. News broke on January 29th, and the WWE released an official statement verifying what all the wrestling news sites were reporting. Once Wrestlemania 35 is said and done, so is Dean Ambrose’s tenure with the company. According to reports, money is not the issue, rather creative direction of his character.

Do I think this is the last WWE fans will see of Dean Ambrose? He’ll obviously join another promotion, with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) looking like a shiny and promising horizon for the incredible talent. Having said that, despite the fact the brand is a revolving door, it could be years until The Lunatic Fringe returns to a WWE ring.

And it’s understandable that Ambrose, as a talent, despite the years of hard work and commitment he’s provided to the company, will be used to help push other superstars over during this time. He’s already helped in the last two weeks when it comes to Seth Rollins and EC3. But, is that all his WWE swan song will have to offer? Becoming somewhat of a glorified jobber to help elevate other talent?

Dean Ambrose is a huge name, with an enormous fanbase. He’s leaving your company and it’s no secret to anyone, including the WWE Universe. While it would make sense to start tucking him away, removing him from programs and storylines, he does still have two solid months with company, not to mention a Wrestlemania. I’m not implying that a title run is in order, but perhaps he should be fully utilized for far more than jobbing; why not even capitalize by promoting these last two months as his last two in the WWE. Include his exit within storylines, have the announce team acknowledge him leaving. We are living in a new era, and while it took a lot of gumption to send out an official statement about Dean’s departure (something you don’t usually do); go the nine yards and blow it out of the park. Turn Dean into a free agent, place him in matches that the fans haven’t seen before and may never see for a long while (i.e. with Finn Balor, Sami Zayn, as well as SmackDown Live’s Shinsuke Nakamura, AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, Jeff Hardy, etc.), and fully utilize this talent during what could be dubbed his “WWE farewell tour”.

You won’t necessarily be pumping him up for an exit, and elevating his name for the competition – he’s already there in the eyes of the fans – but, you will be helping us to fully enjoy someone on their way out, and maybe earn a bit of respect from the WWE Universe in the process.

Food for thought.

Signed,

Me.
