Colby Covington may have won the interim welterweight title last summer, but it looks like “Chaos” still has some work to do before he fights for the UFC’s undisputed, 170 belt.

Covington has been pushing for a bout with champion Tyron Woodley for months, and after he beat Rafael dos Anjos last June to win the interim belt, it seemed like that fight would go down next.

But, Covington passed on facing Woodley last September due to pending nasal surgery, and in January, he turned down a fight with Kamaru Usman (to wait for a scrap with Woodley). But, now Usman has been booked to fight Woodley March 2nd, and Covington has blasted both the UFC and White for that decision.

Well, some have speculated that Covington could be tapped to face the winner of Woodley – Usman, but recently White told the Las Vegas Review-Journal this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“Colby now is going to have to fight again and earn the spot to get back.”

So, could this be due to Covington’s recent remarks? Or is it payback for “Chaos” not taking the bouts the UFC tabled?

Could it be the UFC just doesn’t think Covington’s as big of a draw as he thinks? And at this juncture, Covington needs to score another win? Could it be a combination of all these factors?
