When Vitor Belfort announced he was walking away from fighting earlier this year, some folks predicted we hadn’t seen the last of “The Phenom”. Well, as it turns out, it looks like that’s the case.

The legendary fighter recently appeared on Ariel Helwani’s “MMA Show”, and while doing so, the 41 year-old Belfort announced this (quote via ESPN):

“I am a free agent,” Belfort said.  “We are in conversation [with promotions]. In 2019 I will come back.”

“I never plan [things], but I remember in 2007, I made a decision, ‘OK, I’m going to be fighting until I’m 40.’ Here I am, finishing this plan I made in 2007. You’ve got to respect your body and know the time to transition to what’s next. A lot of athletes cannot transition. They don’t have nothing to do after.”

Belfort reportedly didn’t dismiss the idea that he could resign with the UFC, but he added they’re looking for a promotion where he can add “value.” So, one would think an organization like Bellator or ONE Championship is more likely.

The Brazilian star is coming off a knockout loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC 224 in May.
