Junior dos Santos recorded an impressive win over Tai Tuivasas last night at UFC Adelaide, and afterwards, the former heavyweight champ threw some verbal jabs at fans and the promotion, regarding Brock Lesnar’s upcoming title shot.

Dos Santos took on Tuivasa in the card’s headliner and proceeded to stop the previously undefeated fighter in the second round. It was a big win for “Cigano”, not only because of the run Tuivasa had been on, but because it ensured JDS remained within striking distance of a title shot.

Speaking of title shots, it’s not completely clear right now who is going to fight Daniel Cormier next. The plan was for Lesnar to be that fighter, but recent news about the pro-wrestler’s new deal with WWE has prompted speculation as to whether that will happen. But, while speaking to the media after UFC Adelaide, dos Santos made it clear he’s not a fan of that plan (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“The way I understand is that’s what Daniel Cormier wants to do to make money,” dos Santos said (h/t Submission Radio). “So somehow, people want to see that, because if they pay to see that it’s gonna be interesting for the UFC, of course. Somehow, Brock Lesnar sells. Somehow they want to see him fighting. I don’t know why. Why? Because he says stupid things? Because he’s a big guy who says stupid things? It doesn’t really make much sense for me.

“Even because he doesn’t deserve to fight for the title. He has no record for that. Also, because, man, he was out because USADA took him out. Not because he wants. USADA took him out and now he’s gonna come back and fight for the title. If MMA is a sport, a real sport, it doesn’t make any sense. But like I said, if people want to see that, we have to give [it to] them.”

Yup, dos Santos makes some solid points here, and he’s certainly not the only person to express their displeasure with Lesnar getting handed a title shot. A guy, let’s remember, who has no official wins on his record since 2010.

Lesnar’s title shot aside, it’s going to be interesting to see who the UFC tables as an opponent for JDS next. Heading into last night’s action dos Santos was ranked #7. So, he’s likely one or two big wins out from fighting for the belt again. After last night’s win, the Brazilian star expressed an interest in fighting Alistair Overeem again, who stopped him in 2015.

But, when you consider that Overeem is ranked #6, he doesn’t have much to gain from fighting JDS again. The “Reem” has been calling for a bout with Derrick Lewis, following his impressive win over Sergey Pavlovich last month at UFC Beijing.
