Gunnar Nelson didn’t cruise to victory last night at UFC 231, but ultimately the welterweight did what he needed to do: return to the win column.

Nelson took on the always tough, Alex  Oliveira at the Toronto event, and in round one he ate some big time, ground-and-pound shots from “Cowboy”. In round two, however, Nelson proceeded to take Oliveira down, move into the mount, and open a massive, massive cut on Oliveira with a slicing elbow from above. Soon after, Nelson sunk in a rear-naked choke that forced the bloodied Oliveira to tap.

After the fight, Nelson spoke with the UFC’s Megan Olivi about the pivotal victory and the nasty elbow that prompted the gory finish. You can check it out below.

The Icelandic fighter was coming off a stoppage loss to  Santiago Ponzinibbio in July, 2017.
