Gunnar Nelson took some big shots early on in his UFC 231 bout with Alex Oliveira, but the renowned grappler ended up submitting the game welterweight.

Not long into the fight, Nelson clinched up and began looking for a takedown. Oliveira was warned for grabbing the fence, but Nelson was eventually able to take it down (Oliveira also appeared to land some illegal elbows to the back of Nelson’s head during the action). Although Nelson had the back of Oliveira for some time, the latter worked his way to the top position and proceeded to land numerous strikes from above.

Oliveira looked to clinch up in round two, but Nelson ended up scoring the takedown and moving into mount. Nelson took his time but proceeded to land a couple of vicious elbows from above, which split Oliveira wide open. As a horribly, bloodied Oliveira looked to cover up, Nelson sunk in a fight ending, rear-naked-choke.
