Due to the holidays, WWE is tapings Tuesday’s SmackDown tonight as they already did the same for Monday’s New Year’s Eve RAW the day before. It comes from Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena and will air on New Year’s Day. Below are live spoilers.
There is a New Year’s celebration from the New Day to open the show. Each member announces their spot in the Royal Rumble Match.
Samoa Joe defeated Jeff Hardy via submission. Joe used the the Coquina Clutch. By winning, Joe enters a Fatal 5 Way main event with AJ Styles, Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton and Mustafa Ali.
AJ Styles, Vince McMahon and Shane McMahon are in tieback. Styles promises Vince will see the real AJ later tonight. Some words are exchanged between Styles and Vince, leading to Shane getting in the middle. Shane wants to know if Vince wants to see the real Styles. Vince does and laughs to end the segment.
Rusev and Lana are out for a United States Championship celebration after winning the title last week. Former champion Shinsuke Nakamura attacks Ruserv from behind and aLana jumps on his back. Nakamura super kicks Rusev and Lana is hurt in the process. Nakamura continues the assaults with a Kinshasa.
Sonya Deville defeated Naomi. It seemed like Mandy Rosey would take on Naomi as her entrance music played before a late switch inside the ring. Deville attacked Naomi from behind and got the win with a spine buster.
Randy Orton and Mustafa Ali have words about tonight’s main event.
John Cena returns to TV as he heads to the SmackDown ring. He issues an open challenge and out comes “Becky Lynch. She says she is now The Man of WWE as Cena has been replaced. Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega are out. Vega has words for Becky and Cena. No surprise as Cena proposes a tag match right now.
John Cena & Becky Lynch defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega. Cena looks to be on his way to getting the victory before Becky tosses her own partner from the ring. Becky puts Verga in the armbar and she taps.
Shane McMahon and The Miz are backstage to discuss what their wrestling gear should be.
Asuka sees Triple H in the back and says she will fight anyone. Charlotte Fair, Carmella and Becky Lynch all appear to make their case. Triple H will take in under advisement.
Fatal 5-Way with the winner facing Daniel Bryan at the Royal Rumble: AJ Styles defeated Samoa Joe, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio and Mustafa Ali. Styles gets the win after pinning Orton to close the show.
